Fish Fry/Pan-Seared Fish

This Fish fry is kind of a staple at our home. We very rarely make any other dish with fish. The main reason is that my kids absolutely love it and we do too! 😀 Fish is loaded with Omega-3 fatty acids and many other vitamins and minerals. Omega-3 fatty acids help maintain a healthy heart and also aid healthy brain function.

This fish fry is my husband’s recipe 😉 It is super easy to prepare and very less time-consuming. Using a cast-iron or a iron skillet will give this pan-seared fish a perfect finish and texture. I have used Salmon fillets in this recipe. Any fish fillet with less or no bones will work for this recipe.

You can also try this Tandoori Fish recipe which is oven-baked and gives a restaurant style taste.

Servings : 2-3Prep time :15 mins Cook time : 20 mins
Fish fillets(Salmon)1/2 kg (1 lb)
Chopped onions/Shallots1/2 cup
Garlic cloves6-8
Coriander leaves1/2 cup
Mint leaves10
Curry leaves5
Red chilli powder1.5 tbsp
Kashmiri chilli powder1 tsp
Turmeric powder1/4 tsp
Fennel seeds1 tbsp
Fresh grated coconut2 tbsp
Salt1.5 tsp
OilAs needed

  • Wash the fish fillets and remove the skin. Cut them into your desired size and thickness.
  • Now, gather all the other ingredients (except oil, fish and egg) in a mixer. Using shallots makes it more tastier.
Grated coconut is missing in this pic. Don’t forget to add them!
  • Grind them coarsely and finally add egg whites from the egg and pulse it once.
  • Marinate the fish with the ground masala. Cover and let it rest in the fridge for at least 30 mins.
  • Now, heat a cast-iron skillet and shallow fry the fillets at medium flame. It takes about 8-10 for the fish to get cooked completely.
  • Add oil as and when necessary and fry until dark brown patches appear on both sides of the fillet.
  • Enjoy the Fish fry with some raw onions and lemon drizzle. It vanishes before you know it! Be sure to save some for yourself before serving it to others 😀
