Paper plate Rain mobile

It was raining outside( as most of the days this month 0_0) and my kids wanted to go outside with an umbrella. An idea flashed and I thought of making some 3D paper umbrellas. Kids helped in the making. But guess what! As soon as we finished making the umbrellas, my son asked me, “I only have the umbrellas, I need rain drops too”. That’s when this Rain mobile idea came to me. It’s super pretty and it spins around so beautifully 😀 You only need a few supplies and a little bit of patience to get it all done!

Materials needed

  • Construction paper/Color paper
  • Bamboo skewer
  • Paper plate
  • Needle and thread
  • Water/Acrylic Paint
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun/Glue

  • First, we will make the umbrella. I have made a rainbow umbrella. So used 6 color(I didn’t have blue ;-P) papers. You can do the same or you can use only one color too.
  • Cut out 6 semi-circles of same size from the construction paper.
  • Now, fold the semi-circles in half and start sticking the ends of it with glue. Stick all 6 six of them in a circular form in the shape of an umbrella.
  • Insert the bamboo skewer in the middle of the umbrella and glue it in place. Your umbrella is now ready!
  • Now, cut out the shapes that you want to hang in the rain mobile. I did the things associated with rain like rain cloud with a lightning, one more cloud, sun, rainbow and a lot of rain drops. Draw and cut out all these shapes. You can cut these from white paper and paint them or cut from different colored paper.
  • With a needle and thread, attach a few rain drops to each one of the big shapes like the sun, clouds and the rainbow.
  • Now, using the needle and thread, string all these pieces on the side of the paper plate. String the umbrella in the center of the paper plate using a very long thread. Use the umbrella thread to hang the mobile on a hook.

Now sit back and enjoy the beautiful mobile twirling around! 😀
